Mr. Michael Sokalzuk

Principal

Sokalzuk, Michael

I am honored to serve as principal of Donald H. Eichhorn Middle School, a role I’ve held since July 2023. Before stepping into this position, I taught special education here for seven years, developing a deep connection to our school community. My path to a career in education began during a career exploratory experience in high school, leading me to earn my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Bloomsburg University with certifications in elementary education, special education, mid-level math, and educational leadership. I am currently pursuing my doctorate in education from Slippery Rock University.

Middle school is where I truly belong; our students’ energy, curiosity, and potential make this work incredibly rewarding. At DHEMS, we prioritize relationships, learning, and safety, and I’m proud of how our staff continues to strengthen student supports, expand gifted and special education programming, and improve our school environment.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my wife, daughter, our two dogs, and our cat. I’m a Steelers and Notre Dame fan, and I enjoy skiing, attending concerts, hunting, boating on the Susquehanna, and being with family and friends.

It is a privilege to lead this community, and I look forward to continuing our work to make DHEMS the best it can be.

Go Green Dragons!

Mr. Bradley Catherman

Assistant to the Principal

Catherman, Bradley

I am excited to serve as the Assistant to the Principal at Donald H. Eichhorn Middle School. For the past 16 years, I taught 7th-grade science here at DHEMS, where I especially enjoyed teaching about cells, genetics, evolution, and fresh coldwater ecosystems. Alongside my classroom role, I also spent 8 years as the Head Teacher, overseeing the midday cafeteria and recess time, while working with students to help them grow academically and socially.

I truly enjoy working with middle school students. Supporting our students, teachers, and staff is something I take great pride in, and my goal is to ensure that everyone in our building feels a sense of belonging while exploring new ideas and learning every day. Outside of school, I enjoy time with my family. My wife is a 3rd grade teacher at Kelly Elementary in our district, and we have three children, Ella, Maisey, and Jack. As a family, we like to travel and enjoy the outdoors. If I am not with my family, you can find me in my gym, in a treestand, or watching the Broncos, Yankees, or Nittany Lions play.

I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the DHEMS community in this new role and look forward to working together to make this school year a great one.
