We understand that successful transitions play a vital role in supporting student confidence, connection, and academic success. At Donald H. Eichhorn Middle School, we provide structured opportunities for students and families to feel prepared and supported as they move through each stage of their middle school journey.

To ease the transition from elementary school, all 5th grade students visit the middle school near the end of the school year. During this visit, they meet the 6th grade team, tour the building, and learn about what to expect as incoming middle schoolers. Over the summer, families receive a guide to middle school, and incoming 6th graders are invited to attend an orientation session to help them start the year with confidence.

For students entering 7th and 8th grade, we host a back-to-school night each fall to welcome students and families, provide important information, and give everyone the opportunity to meet teachers. Students who are new to the district in grades 7 and 8 are also invited to a separate orientation to help them get to know the building, routines, and key staff members before the school year begins.

As students prepare to transition to high school, our 8th graders visit Lewisburg Area High School in early spring. During advisory, they engage in activities designed to help them understand scheduling, course options, and what to expect as they enter 9th grade.

We also work to build postsecondary readiness throughout the middle school years. In our curriculum, students explore financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and career pathways through business classes. Family and Consumer Science classes provide hands-on lessons in real-world “adulting” skills such as budgeting, meal planning, and personal responsibility.

Our goal is to ensure that students leave middle school equipped not only for high school, but for life beyond the classroom.
