DHEMS Principal

Mr. Michael Sokalzuk - DHEMS Principal

I am honored to serve as the principal of Donald H. Eichhorn Middle School, a role I’ve held since July 2023. Prior to becoming school principal, I spent seven years as a special education teacher here at DHEMS, developing a deep connection to our school community. My passion for education began in high school when a career exploratory program with a first-grade class showed me that teaching was my true calling. That experience led me to Bloomsburg University, where I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. I hold certifications in elementary education, special education, and mid-level mathematics, along with my principal certification. Currently, I am pursuing my doctorate from Slippery Rock University.

One of my greatest joys is working with middle school students. While I originally planned to teach elementary school, I quickly realized this age group is where I belong. Our students are energetic, curious, and full of potential. I am proud of our school’s commitment to developing well-rounded individuals and fostering a culture of high achievement.

Building strong relationships with students, teachers, and families is at the heart of our middle school. I believe in an open-door policy where everyone feels supported and valued. Since becoming principal, our school has worked to enhance culture and climate, prioritizing learning, relationships, and safety. Together with our dedicated staff, we have strengthened student support systems, introduced a new 6-8 gifted education model, expanded special education programs, and improved school facilities to create a more engaging learning environment. I am proud to be part of a team committed to continuous growth and innovation.

Outside of school, I love spending time with my family. I am married to my high school sweetheart, and we have a daughter, two energetic dogs, and a very lazy cat. I’m a passionate football fan (Go Steelers and Notre Dame!) and an avid skier.  I enjoy attending rock concerts, hunting, boating on the Susquehanna River, and spending time with my family and friends.

It is a privilege to serve this incredible school community, and I look forward to working together to make Donald H. Eichhorn Middle School the best it can be.

Go Green Dragons!
